"Runaway" Video

"I was overjoyed to learn that proposition 8 was recently over turned in my home state of California. It's a step in the right direction, however for a country that teaches it's children to place their right hand over their hearts and pledge 'Liberty and justice for all' we still have a long way to go towards actually making that a reality. When I wrote 'Runaway' with DJ Skeet Skeet, we wrote it from the perspective of our 13 year old selves, who felt pressure from our parents and society to be something that we were not. The song is ultimately about breaking free and following your heart. I wanted to make a music video that told a similar story in relation to gay marriage. I was honored to have the beautiful and brave Mollie Thomas star in my video, and I hope that together we are able to bring about more awareness to an issue that is near and dear to both of our hearts and spread a message of equality. Happy Valentine's Day, everyone deserves love."

Due to the potential effects of Hurricane Irene, the Thursday August 25 date of the IDentity Festival presented by Skullcandy is being postponed.

Details regarding a potential reschedule date will be released on Monday August 29 at 2PM Pacific Standard Time.

IDentity is scheduled to perform as planned on August 24 in Tampa, Florida

Jesse Malakaouti is a California girl with an undying love of pop. After breaking from her former rock bandmates, the chanteuse relocated to London for two years to delve into the underground dance scene and hone her skills as a writer. PZO: As a musical artist, what are your best qualities?
Jessie:Thats a hard question. Its always hard to talk about yourself like that, I guess. I think that Im a great songwriter. I think I write melodies that are really catchy, but at the same time I think theres a very honest quality to my songwriting that is relatable. At the same time, I think because its so honest sometimes I talk about things that are maybe considered a little bit taboo, but because I go there and push boundaries I think its a good thing. Its thought provoking music.

PZO: Describe your music in five words or less.
Jessie: Lets seefuturistic, alternative, sexy, electro, pop---thats five.

PZO: Whats a common compliment people give you?
Jessie: Let me think about this. A great compliment for me is when people are like your songs are stuck in my head. Theyve been stuck in my head all day. I get that a lot. Like I cant go to sleep I keep listening to your songs over and over. Thats a great compliment that my music is catchy.

Jessie and the Toy Boys are poised to become the fresh new sound in the US. Starting out as a Hip Hop breakdancer, Jessie has positioned her band to become Americas next music sensation besides American Idol finalists. Her eclectic mixture of Pop, Punk-Rock, Rap and Dubstep has catapulted her as the next coming of todays up-and-coming bands.

Armed with band mates that fully rely on her decisions, Jessie is slated to release her crowd-awaiting album. Although the name of the album is only known by her, she has the material that will shock the world. However, she has plans to possibly hold a contest for her ever-growing fans to guess what her next album will be. I think Im going to have a contest and Im going to try to have my fans guess the title. Im going to give them clues and see if they can guess it. Its an obscure lyric in one of my songs. Recently, we interviewed Jessie and the Toy Boys

Well lets start by you telling us a little more about yourself?

WellMy name is Jessie and I have a band called Jessie and the Toy Boys. We are in the middle of writing an album that we are releasing this summer. We just released our first single, Push It. Its been really exciting because its really starting to get really big in the clubs. I went out the other night and heard it in the club with my friends.

How did you come up with your stage name?

Wellve seen my band mates. You see that they are plastic. The thing is, Ive always like being in bands. Ive grown up being in a lot of punk-rock bands. I like the feeling of being a part of a crew, but Im such a creative control freak. Every time I started a band or a group, its always ended badly because we argue over creative differences. So the thing is, because I have such a strong creative vision I wanted to start a band with boys that wouldnt talk back. Thats why I started Jessie and the Toy Boysbecause they are perfect and they listen.

Jessie & the Toy Boys had come to SXSW to put on a show, and in terms of calories consumed per audience member, they were off the charts. Vocalist Jessie Malakouti vamped tirelessly in a black pleather leotard and leopard-print tights, while the Toy Boys executed a ridiculously tightly choreographed series of dances. I grinned my way though the whole set of guilty-pleasure pop, and Malakouti was having none of the crowd's indifferenceafter she left the stage to scattered applause followed quickly by silence, she bounded back out, crying, "You want one more? Is that what I'm hearing?" Ladies and gentlemen, that is rock and fucking roll.

SXSW: Perez Hilton party

A peek backstage revealed that Vince Youngs Steakhouse was catering the VIP areas. More eye-popping than the grub was Jessie and the Toy Boys, a band that had played several shows during SXSW and was busy garnering attention backstage, the singer draped in a leopard-print robe and sidled by retro-futurist nerds.

Jessie to Model in Style X Runway Show

South by Southwest (SXSW) today announced Style X would feature runway shows with more than three-dozen musicians performing during the music festival. Artists and bands scheduled to walk the catwalk include New Yorks Asobi Seksu and Texas native Sahara Smith. The runway shows will take place at 6 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday, March 18-19, in the Austin Convention Center and are free and open to the public.
